Web site or website?

Posted in Strategy on by David Cecil

We’re a firm that designs websites. Or, designs Web sites. We design things that go on the World Wide Web, but what the heck are people calling it these days?

In the many years that I’ve been in web design & graphic design industry, I’ve always preferred the term “website” when discussing a site on the web.  However, there’s always a small, easily-ignored voice in the back of my head telling me that Web site is the proper spelling (coupled with a small, easily-ignored need to be proper).  So, armed with my Google search bar, I went looking for a once-and-for-all answer.

And I didn’t find one.

THE GOAL: In five minutes or less, compare web design, graphic design, and branding to a foot fetish.  GO!

I’m going to admit to something that I’m not proud of, and it’s to do with the television my fiance forces me to watch.  Before I continue, however, I feel like I need to preface this with the fact that all day long I listen to awesome music and do a bunch of other awesome stuff, and this should in no way be viewed as an indicator of how hip or un-hip I am.  OK?  OK.

Music We Loved

For those of you who know us personally, you likely know that we consume new music like my fiance consumes Oreo cookies after work and then, a few hours later, claims to not be hungry enough to cook anything for dinner.  So being the helpless male I am, I eat cereal and question the life choices I’ve made that led to our engagement.

Sorry.  Not the point.

Now that 2009 is in our rear view mirror, we thought it appropriate to provide you with a little insight into our favorite albums of what was one of the most exciting and rewarding years of our lives.  And as a special treat, I went ahead and listed my favorite albums of the past decade as well. The Little House

Posted in News on by David Cecil

I know it’s been a while since you heard from us, and believe us, we missed you too.  But sometimes, you just have to put your head down and take care of business, you know?

The business we’ve most recently taken care of is a web design project that I’m struggling to describe without using words that I try to avoid when discussing our ultra-important, super-serious, strategically-driven web design work.  Words like cute.  And adorable.

There may be no way around it.

The Little House Kansas City Web Design - Johnny Lightning Strikes Again

The most recent addition to our portfolio and client family is The Little House – a boutique children’s clothing store, located for over 40 years in the charming Brookside neighborhood of Kansas City, MO.  Success over decades doesn’t happen by accident (I dare you to go to their store and tell me you’d buy your children clothes anywhere else), but they felt that it was time to grace the World Wide Web with a little of their delightfullness.  Yes – delightfullness is in no way a real word, but you’re going to have to go with it because it’s all too appropriate. Just as the Roman Catholic church once commissioned works from the master artists of their time, so too were we commissioned to create something magnificent – something that would stand the test of time.  The only difference is instead of painting the Sistine Chapel, we wrote a theme song.  For a blog.  For no money.  And it was entirely the result of an ongoing joke on Twitter.

People say we are progressing, but I sometimes wonder.

For the people who know me well, it is a known fact that the whole “design firm, alt-pop musician, black clothes” shtick is simply a deceptive disguise for a run-of-the-mill sports fanatic.  You may be one to disagree (you’d be wrong), but for me, the absolute most exciting sport to watch is golf.  I’m serious; my entire world stands still during the four major golf tournaments.  I tell James & Josh that I sit at my desk and work with the tournament on in the background, but that’s a straight-up lie.  I watch.  I watch hard.
