Burns & McDonnell is a full-service engineering firm and one of our city’s most well-known and trusted companies. Proof of this is the fact that they were awarded one of the most exciting downtown development projects in Kansas City’s history – the development of the downtown streetcar starter line.
To help manage Kansas City's communication with the public during this difficult construction phase, Burns & McDonnell enlisted our help to plan, design and develop a website that would serve as the communication hub for the project – providing the people of Kansas City with immediate updates on progress and impacts on traffic.
Our primary challenge when approaching this project was not to provide a place to post updates and information, but to do so in a way that generated excitement about the project, especially in the midst of the inconvenience that would come from the construction phase. To do this, we created a fun, illustrated map that is not only extremely functional, but places the streetcar in its rightful place among the other landmarks that define Kansas City. This map was then developed to be both mobile friendly and easily updatable to communicate a variety of information.
